Daily estimated short interest on a company's bonds, one row per bond per date, for the same instrument path as our equity endpoints, so you can read the credit market beside the shares.
Bond short interest at ORTEX is an estimate: the face value of a bond on loan as a share of the amount issued, from the daily securities lending data ORTEX receives. It is not modelled like our equity short interest estimate. No regulator publishes bond short interest to calibrate a model against: FINRA short interest covers equities only, and TRACE reports trades, not positions. Bond borrowing also finances dealer inventory, so the estimate overstates outright short positions. Read the loan fee and isSpecial beside it.
Covers bonds issued by the company and by subsidiaries rolled up to it (parentOrtexCid), such as finance vehicles, including bonds that have since matured or been called. History starts on 2012-01-03. One request covers at most a year (from_date to to_date at most 366 days apart); for longer history, request consecutive windows.
This is a bond dataset, separate from the equity short interest endpoints: the figures here are never part of an equity short interest estimate, and the equity estimates are never derived from them.
Available Data Points:
- Date: The securities lending file date.
- Ortex Bid: Stable ORTEX identifier for the bond, as on the bond reference endpoint. Key on this.
- ISIN: The bond's ISIN.
- Issuer: The issuer's name.
- Ortex Cid: The issuer's ORTEX company id when ORTEX covers its equity; null otherwise.
- Parent Ortex Cid: The ORTEX company id of the issuer's listed parent where known (its GLEIF consolidation parent, or a listed guarantor): ties a finance subsidiary's bond to the parent's shares. Equals ortexCid for a listed issuer.
- Currency / Amount Issued: The bond's currency and the face value issued, in that currency.
- Short Interest Pct Of Issue Est: Estimated short interest: face value on loan as a percent of the amount issued. Null where the amount issued is unknown or the two are not in the same units.
- Quantity On Loan: Face value on loan.
- Value On Loan USD: Market value on loan, in USD.
- Utilisation Pct: Value on loan as a percent of the lendable supply.
- Fee Avg: The average loan fee.
- Loans: The number of open loans.
- Is Special: The bond's loan fee is in the top 5% of that day's bonds while at least half of the lendable supply is out: the combination research finds informative.
Try it out! You can test the API with the trial key TEST. Simply include it in your request headers; either here, or add the header "Ortex-Api-Key": "TEST" to your http request.
Trial key restrictions: Trial keys may be limited to a specific date range and set of regions. Requests outside the allowed regions or entirely outside the allowed date range are rejected; a date window that partially overlaps the allowed range is trimmed to it, reported in meta.restriction.
