Bond fund holders

API Enterprise

Who owns a company's bonds: the holdings of every US mutual fund and ETF, bond by bond, from the portfolios they file with the SEC on Form N-PORT. One row per bond and quarter, with the number of funds holding it, the par and value they hold, the share of the issue that is, how much of it the funds have lent out, and the ten largest holders.

Funds file up to 60 days after each quarter and the SEC publishes the quarter after that, so this is a quarterly ownership picture: asOf is the latest fund report date in the row. Rows whose asOf falls in the requested window are returned.

Covers bonds issued by the company and by subsidiaries GLEIF consolidates into it, such as finance vehicles. The response is uncharged (no credits).

Available Data Points:

  • Ortex Bid: The bond's ORTEX id.
  • ISIN: The bond's ISIN.
  • Quarter: The SEC N-PORT data set, e.g. 2026Q2.
  • Funds: Number of US funds holding the bond.
  • Par Held: Principal amount held by those funds.
  • Value USD: Market value held, in USD, as the funds report it.
  • Value On Loan USD: Value the holding funds report as lent out.
  • Pct Of Issue Held: Par held as a percentage of the amount issued, when that is known.
  • Reported In Default: True when any holding fund reports the bond in default.
  • Top Holders: The ten largest holding funds, with par and value.

Try it out! You can test the API with the trial key TEST. Simply include it in your request headers; either here, or add the header "Ortex-Api-Key": "TEST" to your http request.

Trial key restrictions: Trial keys may be limited to a specific date range and set of regions. Requests outside the allowed regions or entirely outside the allowed date range are rejected; a date window that partially overlaps the allowed range is trimmed to it, reported in meta.restriction.

Path Params
string
required

Where to find the instrument: a venue (exchange symbol, MIC or ISO-2 country) or an identifier scheme (tid, sid, cid, isin, figi). See Identifying an instrument.

string
required

The ticker on that venue, or the value in that scheme. An ISIN, sid, cid or share-class FIGI answers for the main listing only; reference/listings lists the others. See Identifying an instrument.

Query Params

date
required

Inclusive end of the returned date window. Required — a missing value returns 400 invalidDateRange. Format: YYYY-MM-DD.
