Identify a stock's peer companies, with each peer's latest price moves next to the stock's own. By default the list is the company's business peers: its closest listed competitors and comparable businesses, ranked by how close the businesses are. Correlation-based peer sets, companies whose share prices have historically moved with the stock, remain available with source=gics or source=market.
The Peer Rating is the strength of the relationship, 0 to 100, higher being closer. For business peers it is how close the two businesses are, raised when each company counts the other as a peer; for gics and market peers it is the historical price correlation. The Effect Score combines the Peer Rating with the peer's one-week price move, to spot the most significant peer moves over the last week.
Available Data Points:
- Ortex Tradable Item ID: Unique id for the peer's listing, for joining peers to any other dataset.
- Ortex Security ID: Unique id for the peer's security; null when the listing is not linked to a security.
- Ortex Company ID: Unique id for the peer's company; null when the listing is not linked to a company.
- Peer Ticker: The ticker of the peer company.
- Peer Exchange: The exchange the peer is traded on.
- Peer Rating: Strength of the relationship, 0 to 100: for business peers, how close the businesses are; for gics and market peers, the historical price correlation as a percentage.
- Peer Weighting: The peer's Peer Rating as a percentage of the total across the returned peers, under the chosen weighting model: its relative significance within the peer group.
- Effect Score: The Peer Rating combined with the peer's one-week price move, highlighting the most significant peer moves whether positive or negative.
- Last Close: The requested stock's most recent closing price.
- One Day Change Pct: Percentage change in the requested stock's price from the previous close to the last close.
- One Week Change Pct: Percentage change in the requested stock's price over the last week.
- Peer Last Close: The peer's most recent closing price.
- Peer One Day Change Pct: Percentage change in the peer's price from the previous close to the last close.
- Peer One Week Change Pct: Percentage change in the peer's price over the last week.
- Peer Currency: The currency the peer's price is quoted in.
- Peer Source: The peer set the row came from: business, gics or market.
- Via: Why the two are peers: the market universes that carry the pair, such as theme:ai or theme:semiconductors::size:mega. Empty for the business and gics sets: a business peer is explained by the ranking itself, and the GICS set's only universe is the industry group. See the Themes endpoints for what a theme is.
Snapshot
A peer list describes the relationships and price moves as of the latest close, so this endpoint takes no date window. Rows are ordered by Peer Weighting, highest first. A stock with too little recent price history to measure the moves against returns an empty result.
Filtering
Use num_peers to choose how many peers are returned (the top N by Peer Rating, 1 to 1000), model to choose how Peer Rating weight is distributed across them, and country to keep only peers listed in one country.
Peer sources
Three peer sets are served, selected with source. business lists a company's closest listed business peers: the competitors its own annual report names, and companies that sell similar products to similar customers, ranked by how close the businesses are (Peer Rating, 0 to 100). It is refreshed monthly for US large and mid caps and quarterly or half-yearly for the rest of the largest 20,000 companies. gics correlates within the company's GICS industry group and is unchanged from every earlier version of this endpoint. market correlates within theme and size universes derived from the company's reported business segments, and where it is not enabled a request for it returns 400 invalidSource. Without source, business is served where the stock has business peers and gics otherwise; resolved.source and each row's peerSource say which set was served. Name a set to get exactly that set: gics stays available unchanged for integrations built on it.
TEST key
The TEST key receives the top two peers only, in JSON and CSV alike.
Try it out! You can test the API with the trial key TEST. Simply include it in your request headers; either here, or add the header "Ortex-Api-Key": "TEST" to your http request.
Trial key restrictions: Trial keys may be limited to a specific date range and set of regions. Requests outside the allowed regions or entirely outside the allowed date range are rejected; a date window that partially overlaps the allowed range is trimmed to it, reported in meta.restriction.
