Dividend forecast

API TraderAPI QuantAPI Developer

An ORTEX dividend forecast is our expectation for one future dividend of one listing: when it will be declared, its ex-date, record date and pay date, and how much it will be. ORTEX forecasts every dividend-paying listing it covers and updates the forecasts every day from the listing's own payment history, its reported results and the market it trades in. Once the company declares the dividend, the row shows the declared amount beside the forecast.

This endpoint returns the listing's next events, nearest first: four by default, up to 24 with num_events. Declared events stay in the list until their ex-date has passed.

Available Data Points:

  • Event Key: Stable key of the event: the year and the slot in the payment cycle, e.g. 2026-Q4, 2026-H1, 2026-FY.
  • Period: Display form of the event key, e.g. Q4 2026, Interim 2026, Final 2026.
  • Sequence: 1 for the listing's next event, 2 for the one after, and so on.
  • Kind: regular, special, extra, initiation, return_of_capital, liquidation or stock.
  • Frequency: The listing's payment cadence: weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi_annual, annual or irregular.
  • Status: status is forecast (not yet declared), late (the expected declaration date has passed with nothing declared; daysLate counts the days) or declared (the company has declared it, and declaredAmount, declaredAt and declaredVsForecast are filled).
  • Days Late: Days past the expected declaration date with nothing declared; 0 when not late.
  • Declaration Date: Expected declaration date, with Declaration Band Days either side.
  • Ex Date: Expected ex-dividend date, with Ex Band Days either side. The declared date once declared.
  • Record Date / Pay Date: Expected record and pay dates. The declared dates once declared.
  • Date Confidence: How consistently the listing's past dates followed the pattern used, 0 to 1.
  • Currency: ISO 4217 code of the dividend currency.
  • Base Amount: The last regular payment in the same slot, split-adjusted: what the change is measured against.
  • Amount P10 / P50 / P90: The forecast amount: central (P50) and the 10th and 90th percentiles.
  • Change Pct: Amount P50 against Base Amount, in percent.
  • P Raise / P Hold / P Cut / P Omit: Outcome probabilities as fractions from 0 to 1; they add up to 1.
  • P Special: Probability of a special or extra payment around the event, 0 to 1.
  • Outcome / Outcome Probability: The most likely outcome (special when pSpecial is 0.5 or more) and its probability.
  • Options Implied: The dividend implied by listed option prices to the first expiry after the ex-date, where there is one.
  • Declared Amount / Declared At: The declared amount and when ORTEX first knew of the declaration (UTC).
  • Declared Vs Forecast: exact, above or below: the declared amount against Amount P50.
  • Forecast As Of: The date of the forecast run the row comes from.
  • Reviewed: true when ORTEX staff reviewed this forecast and the row shows the reviewed values: a review can change the dates, the central amount (Amount P10 and P90 widen to include it) and the kind. false otherwise. The probabilities are always the ORTEX forecast's own.
  • Holdings Amount: ETFs only: the distribution estimated from what the fund holds (its constituents' paid, declared and forecast dividends over the distribution period, net of withholding and the expense ratio, calibrated on the fund's past distributions), beside Amount P50. Null for other listings.
  • Holdings Coverage Pct: ETFs only: the share of the fund's equity weight the holdings estimate covers.
  • Holdings As Of: ETFs only: the date of the holdings file the estimate was made from.

Probabilities

The four outcome probabilities compare the next payment with the last regular payment in the same slot of the payment cycle (the same quarter, half or year): pRaise, pHold, pCut and pOmit (no payment at all) add up to 1. pSpecial is a separate figure: the chance of a special or extra payment around the event, which can come with any of the four. The probabilities are calibrated, which means that across many events a 30% figure comes true about 30% of the time; the published scorecard measures how well that holds.

Amounts and dates

Amounts are per share in the dividend currency, adjusted for splits to today's share count. amountP50 is the central forecast; amountP10 and amountP90 bound the range we expect the declared amount to fall in four times out of five. Forecast dates carry a band in business days (exBandDays, declarationBandDays): the date we expect, plus or minus the band.

Four years ahead

The first eight events are the event forecasts described above. Ask for more than eight with num_events and the list continues to the end of the fourth calendar year after this one. Each later event repeats the listing's payment cycle on its usual dates, its amount grows with the dividend growth expected for the coming fiscal years, and it carries an Amount P10 to P90 range that widens with the years. Tested on past years from 2008 on, the range held about eight times in ten for listings that kept paying. These later events carry no probabilities, no date confidence and no options-implied amount.

No date window

A forecast describes what we expect today, so this endpoint takes no from_date or to_date. For past forecasts beside what was declared, use the forecast history endpoint.

Try it out! You can test the API with the trial key TEST. Simply include it in your request headers; either here, or add the header "Ortex-Api-Key": "TEST" to your http request.

Trial key restrictions: Trial keys may be limited to a specific date range and set of regions. Requests outside the allowed regions or entirely outside the allowed date range are rejected; a date window that partially overlaps the allowed range is trimmed to it, reported in meta.restriction.

Path Params
string
required

Where to find the instrument: a venue (exchange symbol, MIC or ISO-2 country) or an identifier scheme (tid, sid, cid, isin, figi). See Identifying an instrument.

string
required

The ticker on that venue, or the value in that scheme. An ISIN, sid, cid or share-class FIGI answers for the main listing only; reference/listings lists the others. See Identifying an instrument.

Query Params
integer
Defaults to 4

How many upcoming events to return, nearest first: 1 to 24; defaults to 4. Events after the eighth reach up to four calendar years ahead. Anything else returns 400 invalidNumEvents.

integer

Page number within the paginated result set. Must be >= 1. Defaults to 1.

integer

Number of rows per page. The default and the maximum allowed depend on the API tier; a value above the tier maximum is rejected with 400 invalidPageSize.

string
enum
Defaults to json

Response format. "json" (default) or "csv".
